Still rockin' it for the kids. Looking so trashy right now.

The Mustache-alypse

I'm participating in this year's Mustaches For Kids 'stache-growing season. It kicked off last Thursday with a shave-off at Cedar Creek that I unfortunately couldn't make, due to my shooting photos at the Dethklok concert. Here, however, is proof of my clean visage, as of November 12th.

I'll post a few more updates along the way. The Houston Chapter of M4K is raising funds that will be donated to Workshop Houston, one of my favorite non-profits. It's like when your neighbor runs a 5K and asks you to donate, or when the kids at school did Jump Rope for Heart, and you shelled out a few bones for a good cause. Except we aren't running or jumping rope - we've just committed to "Grow that 'stache! Grow that 'stache!" over the next month [imagine that last part as chanted by the crowd at a Gallagher show].

If you'd like to donate some coin to an über-worthy cause, you can chip in via Paypal right here.

Get to Know a Houston Band: The Literary Greats

The Literary Greats by H - Town Rock

This week I went to Valhalla, trusty palmcorder in hand, to meet up with Brandon Elam and Taylor Lee of The Literary Greats.  They had just wrapped up a session as guest on KTRU's Local Show, and we sat down to chat about their new album, Ocean, Meet The Valley [you can read my review of it on Houstonist], Ice Cube, and beer baskets.  You can read an abbreviated transcript over at Houstonist.

Sketch - Prairie Cadets design

Here's a quick sketch I worked up as a rough draft for some Prairie Cadets merchandise - shirts, posters, demo sleeves, etc. In my brain it's already well advanced and refined beyond this, but my drawing skills are meager. I think it'll be a boy in a bear hat, and that the sail will read Prairie Cadets. If I can get detailed enough I'll add rigging and a captain's wheel.

I think I possess enough ability to do a larger scale rendering that I can scan and pull into photoshop, and I should be able to transfer that into a working design for screen printing. If I get adventurous enough I'll turn it into a two-color screen job. Oh yeah, I'm gonna start screening stuff - it seems simple enough.

Get to Know a Houston Band: Airon Paul Dugas & The Religion

Airon Paul Dugas & The Religion by H - Town Rock

This week I sat down with Airon Paul Dugas and Steven Burnett, the bass player for Airon's backing band The Religion. We chatted for 25 minutes and then went out for some of the best migas I've eaten to date. You can read the interview here.

Early Costumes.

I love running into Craig Hlavaty around town. It's even better when we get to cover shows together. That Brittanie Shey is pretty fantastic as well.
